Things to Avoid

The following are some things to avoid when you know someone is depressed.

Avoid criticism or blaming the person for depressed behaviour.

Avoid talking about the person with depression - talk with them.

Avoid the expectation that the person will just 'snap out of it'.

Avoid trying to do everything for the person with depression, even though that may seem like helping.

Avoid excluding the person with depression from family discussions, though these may become more difficult for a while.

Avoid staying quiet: ask questions!

Avoid trying to fix all bad habits during recovery from depression.

Avoid making any major life decisions during a depressive illness.
