Work with your doctor
There can be many concerns that arise particularly during this first month. Side effects of medication are almost always worse during the first week or two, but then subside.
Some people may feel worse during the first few weeks of treatment, or if the dose of medication is changed. Any feelings of increased anxiety, agitation, hopelessness or thoughts of self-harm should be reported to your doctor straight away. Before you stop taking your medication or change the dose, discuss this with your doctor. There are strategies that can help minimise the side effects and maximise the benefits of treatment, so that your symptoms are reduced as soon as possible.
Make sure you work with your doctor for the best outcome for you. To do this, it is important that your doctor knows of anything that may affect your health or your decisions and can discuss your options with you. You need to feel in control of your health and know that your doctor is there to support you.
