Difference Between Depression In Young People and Adults

There are clear age-related differences between children, adolescents and adults in depressive symptoms and associated features. Children often have a number of physical symptoms and loss of enjoyment in play. They are often irritable and cry easily. Adolescents are often angry, sensitive to criticism and argumentative. They are likely to complain of sadness without looking sad and are more likely to have fluctuations in mood. The classic physical symptoms of sleep and appetite disturbance that are often observed in adults are less common in younger people with depression.
