Depression and thoughts of not being here any more

Some young people living with depression may have thoughts about life not being worth living. If you feel this way, it is essential to let someone know how bad you are feeling. This can be anyone you trust - a member of your family, a teacher, family doctor, student, welfare person or youth worker.

If one of your friends is having such thoughts, then they really need help. They may not want you to tell anyone, but sharing this secret is being a good friend - there are some sorts of secrets that should never be kept and this is one of them. You can start by saying they do have a problem, that you care and will help them that people do recover from depression and that they must receive professional help.

This offers them comfort, hope, companionship and very good advice, because people who are depressed can't just 'snap out of it'. With proper care, they can get better.
