Other
therapies Interpersonal therapy is designed
to improve relationships with other people. Marital
therapy and family therapy aim to improve
relationships and social functioning by involving
those with the closest emotional links. These therapies
aim to identify and change destructive patterns
of behaviour.
Psychological treatment generally involves a degree
of personal commitment - an effort to understand
and cooperate with a therapist, do 'homework' and
act on what has been learned. There is also a time
commitment - cognitive therapy may involve about
15 sessions, while psychotherapy may take a year
or longer.
