What is available?
Whether in supermarkets, natural food shops or chemists,
there are ranges of products with labels suggesting
they will help improve mood.
Examples include:
 |
multivitamin tablets |
| |
|
 |
mineral supplements |
| |
|
 |
SAM-e |
| |
|
 |
tryptophan, 5-hydroxytryptophan |
| |
|
 |
melatonin |
| |
|
 |
herb extracts such as:
hypericin/hypericum/St John's Wort, valerian,
ginger, ginseng, Kava |
Not all of these substances
have evidence that they help to improve mood.
Some are not available in Australia, but may still
be in people's medicine cupboards or might be
brought from overseas.
A number may cause irritability
and interact with other medications. Check the
ingredients with your doctor before you use them,
as the labels may not be clear as to the effects.
